LEGO3
Another Hobby 2008.12.1
LEGO is a strange hobby. And another hobby of mine is audio. Changing cables or the stand for the amplifier, the change in sound a fluctuating feeling of joy and grief. It’s a baffling world, knowing the sound changes when the cables are swapped around. The electricity comes from the power plant, through the wiring in the building, through our breakers in the house, transforming only within the last one meter of cable; surprisingly strange. The “End Effect,” as they say, but it’s a bewildering effect.
When I worry, Legos is my “meditation puzzle” while audio is my “energy supplement device.” People say that sound is received by the body. I believe this is true, as beautiful voices will vibrate the cells in the body. I get goosebumps, and the power in my body soon overflows.
My preference is usually normal, clear sound, disappearing reverberation and the feeling of depth. In a setting such as listening to a female jazz vocalist, it’s like I’m there in the recording studio, sensing her breath, sensing her existence. The low voice rises quickly, but the sound is deep. I sense it at my core. Eventually, I think it boils down to the sense of romance and beauty. Similarly, it’s possibly what I keep important when making games.
